Scarlett Johansson and her husband, Colin Jost, took their revenge on Michael Che during Saturday Night Live after Che made a crude joke about Johansson’s vagina last December.
During the show’s “Weekend Update” segment, the comedians swapped jokes they had written for each other. Before telling his joke, Che, 41, apologized.
“I want to apologize to someone I hurt,” Che said. This led Johansson, 40, to come on stage.
Che continued, “Last time we swapped jokes, I made Colin say some tasteless jokes comparing your vagina to Costco roast beef.”
Johansson responded sarcastically, “Yes, I remember that.”
Che then read a joke written by Jost, saying, “I was just lashing out because I’m jealous. I’ve never seen a human vagina. Notice I said human, because I once spent a summer on a farm.”
Jost, 42, followed by making Che read jokes about himself. One joke said Che cannot take his hoodie off during sex because he has “more nipples than a pregnant dog.”
Johansson added, “Yes, I have heard that about you.”
The joke about Johansson’s vagina came last December, when Che made Jost read a vulgar line about Johansson’s post-partum body during their sketch comedy segment.
Che said, “I want to dedicate this next joke to my boo, Scarlett Johansson,” hesitantly, as the camera showed Johansson watching from backstage.
He joked, “Costco has removed their roast beef sandwich from its menu, but I don’t care. I’ve been eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid… Nah, just kidding, baby. You know I don’t go downtown! That’s gay as hell!”
Johansson’s mouth dropped open as she listened to the joke.
In January, Jost said Johansson was “obviously surprised” when she heard the joke.
“I’m in trouble, I think, with a lot of people,” Jost told The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
He added that the SNL team had warned Johansson beforehand. “They asked, ‘Would you be OK if Michael made a little vagina joke?’”
Johansson agreed, saying, “Sure, whatever. I’m open to it.”
However, Jost said he didn’t know how far the joke would go, especially when a graphic for Arby’s appeared on screen.
Johansson and Jost met on the SNL set in 2017, when she hosted the show. They married three years later. They have a three-year-old son, Cosmo, born in August 2021.
Johansson also has a 10-year-old daughter, Rose, with her ex-husband, French journalist Romain Dauriac.
