Earlier this week, the Philadelphia 76ers revealed that Tyrese Maxey has been working out during the offseason in his hometown of Dallas, Texas. The young guard has taken rookie forward Justin Edwards under his wing. The team shared behind-the-scenes footage of their training sessions.
“Justin was really good for us last year,” Maxey said about Edwards. “He showed a lot of potential, and I think he’ll be an important part of our future. Now, it’s time to keep working and take the next step. I just want him to come out here, see what I do, and get some work in with him.”
On Saturday, Maxey took to social media to share how much he misses playing the game. His offseason training and his attendance at the Dallas Wings’ season opener on Friday night already showed this, but Maxey wanted to remind his fans again. One fan made a bold demand, telling Maxey he needs to hit the gym. Maxey responded quickly.
This season was unusual for the Sixers. Their campaign ended much earlier than usual. Injuries piled up, and the team struggled to find a rhythm. In the final weeks of the regular season, the Sixers were eliminated from playoff contention. It was the first time during Maxey’s era with the team that they did not make the playoffs.
Maxey also missed a large part of the season due to injury. He sat out the final 22 games after hurting his finger. His last game was on March 3.
Currently, Maxey’s finger does not seem to be a problem. Unless there are unexpected setbacks, the former All-Star is expected to be ready for the start of the new season in October.
