Alessandro Costacurta made light of the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Giorgio Furlani during AC Milan’s 2-1 victory over Genoa.
Milan secured the win at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, completing a second-half comeback with two goals in under two minutes. Geoffrey Moncada was present to oversee media duties, but the absence of the two key figures stood out.
CEO Giorgio Furlani and Senior Advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic were missing due to prior commitments, though no additional details have been provided. Bologna’s Giovanni Sartori was in attendance, likely scouting Milan’s upcoming opponents for two important matches.
Costacurta criticized the absence of Furlani and Ibrahimovic while commenting as a pundit on Sky. He drew a comparison to the legendary Adriano Galliani, saying, “Times have changed, but I don’t think Galliani would have ever missed a match. This is unusual. Maybe they’re out looking for a sporting director.”
Regarding Rafael Leao’s yellow card and subsequent suspension, Costacurta remarked, “Leao’s foul seemed intentional. Milan can still do well in the league, especially with Bologna, who have two big games ahead, as was mentioned at the start of the season.”
On the impact of substitutions, he added, “Leao, Joao Felix, and Gimenez all made a difference when they came on. The substitutions worked well, which is a positive sign. But Milan has now conceded 39 goals in 35 games.”
Costacurta highlighted a recurring issue in Milan’s defense, particularly from crosses: “If I focus on goals from crosses coming from the left-center, I think half of them are conceded in this way. There’s always someone unmarked on the cross. Opposing attackers are getting free inside the area.”
He pointed out a lack of attention and poor marking in the box: “The defenders focus too much on the crosser and not on who might receive the ball. It seems there’s little emphasis on individual tactics, especially in marking players inside the area.”
