With James Gunn’s highly anticipated Superman film just a month away from hitting theaters, a new rumor has surfaced online. According to reports, the movie originally included numerous sex-related jokes, but Gunn has since decided to remove many of them to soften the tone of the film.
Rumors Suggest Early Versions Included Adult Humor
Well-known scooper MyTimeToShineHello shared on X (formerly Twitter) that Gunn has eliminated many of the sexual jokes that were part of the early versions of the film. In a post, MTTSH wrote, “I heard James Gunn has removed a lot of the sex jokes from Superman.”
While it is unclear how many such jokes were in the script, the decision to cut them aligns with the movie’s PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association. This rating indicates that audiences should expect only mild suggestive content and limited adult humor.
Studio Adjustments Follow Test Screenings
The changes to the film go beyond just editing the dialogue. A previous report from World of Reel revealed that Superman underwent a “slight course correction” after receiving mixed feedback during test screenings. In response, studio executives reportedly pushed for adjustments to better align the film with audience expectations.
As part of these revisions, one of the editors working on the project was let go, and the film’s structure was reworked. Some scenes were shuffled, and new sequences were added to adjust both the tone and the pacing of the movie.
Music and Runtime Also Reworked
The report also stated that DC Studios brought in a second composer to revise the film’s musical score. Additionally, the total runtime of Superman was trimmed by about 25 minutes, signaling a significant shift from earlier cuts.
Despite the changes—from music to humor—fans remain hopeful. If the updated version resonates with audiences, Superman could still become a major box office success when it debuts on July 11, 2025.
