Brooke Shields, mother of two, has revealed that when it comes to passing down her most valuable jewelry, her youngest daughter has the advantage.
In a recent interview for Only Natural Diamonds’ magazine, published on June 5, the 60-year-old actress, author, and model explained why she intends to leave her fine jewelry to her 19-year-old daughter, Grier.
“My older daughter, Rowan, who is 22, has lost every piece I ever gave her,” Shields admitted. “I literally cannot do it again.”
She added that her youngest daughter truly appreciates the value of fine jewelry. “She understands the difference between real and ‘real,’” Shields said, referring to Grier, who is also a model.
According to Shields, it is not just about the gold or diamonds. “She sees the history, the workmanship, and the story behind these jewelry houses.”
This appreciation likely runs in the family. Shields recalled her childhood memories of traveling and visiting jewelry stores around the world. “If we were in Asia, it was pearls; elsewhere, diamonds or brooches,” she said.
Shields also spoke about her own mother, Teri, who valued jewelry and encouraged her to be independent. “My mom always said, ‘Buy yourself your own diamond — don’t wait to be given one from a man,’” Shields shared. She also expressed her own strong attachment to jewelry and diamonds.
While Shields has some limits on her wardrobe, both Grier and Rowan have access to her collection for special occasions. For example, Rowan wore Shields’ strapless red 1998 Golden Globes gown to her prom. Similarly, Grier wore Shields’ bridal gown, originally worn at her wedding to tennis star Andre Agassi, with some custom adjustments for a high school event.
In May 2022, Shields told PEOPLE that she welcomes her daughters breathing new life into her wardrobe. “Imitation is the strongest sign of flattery,” she said.
She also spoke about how her daughters’ different fashion perspectives have influenced her own style. “They bring a youthful sense that has helped me enjoy a freshness in my look—not to be younger, but to enjoy that feeling.”
