TV producer Chris Convy, who has been in an on-and-off relationship with comedian Nikki Glaser for the past decade, has one clear rule when it comes to being the subject of her jokes: it has to make people laugh.
“My boyfriend’s so cool,” Glaser told People magazine last week at the American Music Awards. “He gave me permission. He said, ‘You can talk about anything about me on stage—as long as it’s funny. The moment it stops being funny, if it bombs, then we have a problem. If you’re just venting and trying to embarrass me, that’s not okay. But if you’re telling a solid joke, go ahead and do it.’”
This isn’t just theory for the couple. Glaser has previously admitted that airing relationship issues through her comedy caused real tension between them. During a 2023 interview with Howard Stern, she said their relationship had ended in the past because she shared personal details on podcasts instead of addressing them privately with Convy.
“I would bring up complaints on podcasts, not because I thought he wouldn’t hear them,” Glaser explained. “They would just come out naturally under the excuse of ‘It’s comedy.’” She admitted that jokes she made publicly were often things she should have said directly to her partner.
“The hardest part is talking about your relationship on stage,” she said. “You make jokes when you’re upset about something, and sometimes you bring it to the stage before you bring it to him. That can create tension. But not so much anymore.”
Glaser also acknowledges that dating a comedian like her isn’t easy. In a 2023 interview with Graham Bensinger, she said, “It is very hard to date me. I’m an open book. I talk about everything. I’m graphic about my sex life. I say things that make me hard to introduce to your family. I basically talk like a porn star.”
Despite the challenges, Convy remains deeply involved in Glaser’s life—both personally and professionally. As the executive producer behind her HBO comedy specials and Golden Globes appearances, he’s closely tied to her success.
“He’s a creative genius,” Glaser said. “He’s been a TV producer for years. A big part of my recent success comes from him. He helped me focus and made everything I do look better than it ever could have.”
She added, “We have a really good working relationship.”
