Jackie Chan Jokes He’ll Be “100 Years Old” While Making ‘Rush Hour 4’

by Diana Ward

Jackie Chan is open to returning to some of his most iconic film roles. As he prepares to appear in Karate Kid: Legends, the action star and honorary Oscar winner says he’s also eager to revisit the long-discussed Rush Hour 4.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Chan confirmed his continued interest in reuniting with longtime co-star Chris Tucker. The two originally teamed up more than 25 years ago in Rush Hour (1998). “I don’t know. Ask the director, ask the studio, ask the writer,” Chan said when asked about the film’s progress. “Hurry up! Otherwise, Chris Tucker and I will be 100 years old. We’ll be old men doing Rush Hour.”

Back in 2017, Chan revealed that he and Tucker had finally agreed on a script for the fourth installment. The pair previously starred in Rush Hour (1998), Rush Hour 2 (2001), and Rush Hour 3 (2007), all directed by Brett Ratner. Together, the three films grossed over $850 million worldwide.

Chan also expressed enthusiasm about returning to another fan-favorite franchise. He confirmed interest in Shanghai Dawn, a sequel to Shanghai Noon (2000) and Shanghai Knights (2003), which co-starred Owen Wilson. “I want to do it,” Chan said, adding, “The script is still in development.”

Plans for Shanghai Dawn date back to 2016, when Chan and Wilson began developing the project with MGM. Director Jared Hess was attached to lead the film, working from a story by Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, with a script by Theodore Riley and Aaron Buchsbaum.

While timelines for both sequels remain unclear, Chan’s enthusiasm suggests that he hasn’t lost interest in bringing these beloved characters back to the big screen.
