Tiffany Haddish made lighthearted jokes about Jennifer Lopez following her bold opening performance at the 2025 American Music Awards.
Jennifer Lopez, 55, kicked off the awards show on Monday, May 26, at Fontainebleau Las Vegas. She sang part of her song “Dance Again” and then performed a mix of recent hits. The medley included songs like Chappell Roan’s “HOT TO GO,” Tinashe’s “Nasty,” and Morgan Wallen and Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help.” During the show, Lopez kissed several of her backup dancers before continuing her energetic routine.
After Lopez’s performance, Haddish, 45, commented while presenting an award, “Our host just danced to 23 songs in six minutes.” She added, “From that opening alone, Jenny From the Block got all her steps and kisses in for the day.”
Haddish then joked, “Save a dancer for me, J. Lo! You’re not the only one out here single.”
Lopez finalized her divorce from Ben Affleck in January. She had filed for divorce in August 2024. The couple married in July 2022 but were previously engaged in 2002. They had broken up the first time in 2004. Affleck is 52 years old.
In April, Lopez was announced as the host and performer for the 2025 AMAs. This is her second time hosting the show, having first hosted in 2015. She has performed at the AMAs more than ten times during her career.
Before the event, Lopez suffered a facial injury during rehearsals. On May 13, she shared photos on Instagram showing a cut across the bridge of her nose. “So … this happened,” she wrote, showing herself icing the wound.
Later, Lopez thanked Beverly Hills facial plastic surgeon Dr. Jason Diamond for stitching her up. She added, “A week later and a whole lotta ice, I’m good as new.”
On May 15, Lopez posted a video behind the scenes. It showed her practicing a difficult dance routine with her backup dancers. She captioned the video, “Getting ready… #JLoLiveIn2025 @AMAs.”
Lopez’s hosting role at the AMAs comes during a busy time in her life. In June, she will headline the World Pride Music Festival in Washington, D.C. She will also tour internationally in July and August. Concerts are planned in Egypt, Spain, Hungary, Italy, Turkey, Poland, Romania, the United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, and Armenia.
Additionally, Lopez is preparing for the October release of her film Kiss of the Spider Woman. She is filming a new movie called Office Romance with Brett Goldstein and is in preproduction for The Last Mrs. Parrish, a Netflix adaptation of Liv Constantine’s 2017 novel.
A close friend told Us Weekly in February that Lopez is starting to feel like herself again. The friend said Lopez is focused on being happy and a good mother to her 17-year-old twins, Max and Emme, with her ex-husband Marc Anthony.
Work has been a good distraction for Lopez lately. The friend said Lopez is choosing her projects carefully and focusing on quality over quantity.
The friend added that Lopez is not ready to start dating again yet. However, she still believes in love because she is a romantic at heart and always will be.
