Comelec 2nd Division Disqualifies Pasig Candidate Sia Over ‘Single Mom’ Jokes

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Second Division has disqualified Pasig congressional candidate Christian Sia from the 2025 elections due to offensive comments about single mothers made during a campaign event in April.

On Thursday, the Comelec division issued a decision granting the petition filed by the Comelec Task Force SAFE, which sought to disqualify Sia from running in the 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE).

The decision reads, “Wherefore, premises considered, the Commission (Second Division) resolved, as it hereby resolves to grant the Petition.”

It further stated, “Accordingly, Respondent is hereby disqualified from continuing as a candidate for Member, House of Representatives, Lone Legislative District of Pasig City, in relation to the 2025 National and Local Elections.”

Comelec also noted that if Sia were to receive the most votes, “his proclamation shall be suspended until the final resolution of this case.”

GMA News Online reached out to Sia for a comment but has not yet received a response.

Earlier, Comelec issued a first show cause order (SCO) against Sia after he made a controversial remark during a campaign event, saying single mothers who still menstruate and are lonely “may sleep with him once per year.”

In his defense, Sia argued that his remarks were not intended to offend women and that his “speech, in its entirety, falls within my freedom of speech.”

However, Sia faced a second SCO after making misogynistic comments about one of his female staff members during another campaign event for the 2025 elections.
