After dating for four years, local actress Tay Ying and celebrity chef Wu Sihan are now just one month away from tying the knot.
In an Instagram post on May 22, Tay Ying, 29, shared moments from their traditional ‘guo da li’ (betrothal) ceremony. She captioned the post with a playful word: “Sold”.
The post featured photos of the ceremony, which included boxes of mandarin oranges, cakes bearing the couple’s names, bottles of alcohol, and a pair of white heels.
In a ‘guo da li’ ceremony, the groom’s family presents various gifts to the bride’s family. These gifts symbolize appreciation for raising the bride and express the groom’s sincerity in the upcoming marriage.
Traditionally, the bride’s family accepts the gifts and returns a portion to share their joy and good fortune.
One photo shows Wu Sihan, 33, exchanging a red packet with Tay Ying’s father, veteran actor Zheng Geping. Her mother, actress Hong Huifang, is also seen smiling in the picture.
In another image, Tay Ying’s younger brother, Calvert, playfully acts like he’s pulling her away from Sihan.
Tay Ying and Sihan officially shared their relationship on Instagram in January 2024, revealing they had been together since 2021. They announced their engagement on March 20, and the wedding is planned for June.
The wedding is expected to be hosted by Yes 933 radio DJs Hazelle Teo and Zhu Zeliang. The couple’s close non-celebrity friends will serve as bridesmaids and groomsmen.
