Katy Perry jokingly addressed the negativity surrounding her public image during a recent concert on her Lifetimes tour in Chicago.
In a clip captured by a concertgoer, Perry responded to the loud applause from the audience by saying, “Well, I thought I was the most hated person on the internet.”
As the crowd continued to cheer, the Firework singer quickly added, “I think that’s false!”
The concert took place a few weeks after Perry launched her Lifetimes tour in late April. Earlier that month, she made headlines as part of Blue Origin’s first all-woman space flight. This venture was widely criticized, leading to an increase in negative comments directed at Perry on social media.
Perry had also faced backlash for collaborating with Dr. Luke on her single Woman’s World, despite allegations of sexual assault against him by Kesha.
Despite the criticism, Perry has maintained a positive outlook. In an Instagram post from April, she reassured her fans, saying, “Please know I am OK, I have done a lot of work around knowing who I am, what is real, and what is important to me.”
She also shared a piece of advice from her therapist: “No one can make you believe something about yourself that you don’t already believe about yourself.”
