Joel Kim Booster Jokes Trimming His Wedding Guest List Feels Like The Hunger Games

by Diana Ward

Joel Kim Booster is opening up about the challenges of planning his wedding.

The comedian and host of The Love Hotel—who is engaged to John-Michael Sudsina—sat down with Jennifer Hudson on The Jennifer Hudson Show last week and shared his thoughts on the wedding planning process.

“It’s intense, man. It’s like homework every weekend,” Booster, 37, told Hudson. “Right now, we’re working on the guest list, and it’s like The Hunger Games,” he said with a laugh. “It’s about sorting through your friends and deciding who gets a plus-one and who doesn’t.”

Booster jokingly added that he’s given his single friends a deadline to find a serious date for the wedding. “You have until August to fall in love, or you can’t bring a random date,” he said, prompting laughter from Hudson. “I’m not paying $88 for someone you met on Tinder three days ago. That’s not happening.”

Earlier this year, Booster shared that he and Sudsina, who got engaged in August 2024, have one goal for their wedding: to throw an unforgettable party. “I want it to be a production. I’m lucky enough to be in a place where I can make it happen,” he said on the Grindr Presents: Who’s the A——? podcast.

However, due to his busy schedule, Booster revealed that the wedding may be a while off. “It’ll probably be one or two years,” he said, explaining that planning the event has been tough because of his work commitments. “It’s hard to plan in advance for something.”

The couple, who met through mutual friends in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, also shared their reasons for getting married. Booster explained that they decided to make a lifelong commitment after realizing they were both ready to put in the work to grow together. “We wanted to make promises in front of our friends,” he said.

Describing Sudsina as his “endgame,” Booster emphasized that he wanted to make that commitment official. “We want to make a statement in front of our friends,” he said.

The couple also hopes to start a family together. “Part of the reason we decided to get married is because we want kids,” Booster said. Although he wasn’t initially interested in having children, he shared that his feelings changed as he grew in his relationship with Sudsina. “I think we’d make something really awesome together,” he said.

When asked if they were hoping for a boy or a girl, Booster replied, “We want both.”
